It’s surreal to be on the horizon of the last quarter of classes at the studio. It has been my privilege to spend the season with the students and watch them evolve as people and makers. Big strides have been made in fashion, and I’m excited to round off the end of the current session with some pattern drafting. Experiencing first hand the time and skill it requires to assemble a garment from scratch should be a requirement for all people who buy clothing. Knowing the torment of sewing in a neckband will forever change how you look at a rack of t-shirts… Fashion also had a special feature in this month’s Made Local magazine. The article highlights my heroes Jessie and Dave Feller, the dynamos behind the registration software Enrichment Kids. The benefits of streamlined admin go directly back to the students, who enjoy more diversity of subjects, and an instructor unbothered by paperwork. It’s worth noting that Jessie is also an accomplished NYC modern dancer, and her husband Dave, a virtuoso musician (typical Petaluma awesomeness). If you haven’t had a chance to see the current gallery show I have uploaded images onto the website portfolio. Attendees wandering in have been surprised to learn the work comes from kids.
